Travel

Students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements.

Lubbock is a city of about 230,000 inhabitants on the Southern High Plains of Texas. It is in a semi-arid environment and surrounded by agricultural land primarily dedicated to cotton production. More information on Lubbock can be found at http://www.ci.lubbock.tx.us/ and http://www.visitlubbock.org.

Preston Smith International Airport (LBB) is served directly by American, United, and Delta airlines. Connections to other airlines can be made through Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, and Atlanta and from there to other US and international cities.

Visa requirements

Students who are not U.S. citizens or residents will need either a B-2 US Visitor Visa or a visa waiver: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en.html

Please note that you do NOT need to apply for a student visa. The CIDOC Summer School is "a short recreational course of study, not for credit toward a degree". A B-2 tourist visa is normally sufficient.

Accommodation

On campus accommodation is available in student resident halls at reasonable cost (~$30 per night). This includes a single room, bedlinen, shared living area, refrigerator, microwave, free Internet access and laundry facilities. Please select the resident hall option on the registration form. More information about campus accommodation can be found here: http://www.depts.ttu.edu/housing/halls/murray.php

Alternatively, you may prefer to make your own arrangements. A wide choice of hotels is available in Lubbock, ranging from inexpensive motels to luxury hotels. The following are located close to the Museum and most include a continental breakfast in the room rate. Transport to and from your hotel is your responsibility.

* NB When making a reservation at the Staybridge Suites, mention that you are on official business at Texas Tech University and ask for the state rate of $102.00 per night. If this is not honoured, please email Nicola Ladkin at nicky.ladkin@ttu.edu with your travel information.
