ICOM Documentation (formerly known as "ICOM CIDOC"), was founded in 1950 at the inaugural meeting of ICOM and has a long tradition of offering training workshops and seminars. The committee's membership is truly international – a community of documentation specialists from more than 70 countries. This collective expertise and experience puts CIDOC Training in a unique position to provide courses in museum documentation in a wide range of languages.

In 2016 ICOM Documentation created CIDOC Training, a non-profit organisation with responsibility for organising and promoting the CIDOC Training Programme.
